Explore and Learn with Our Field Trips

Our river field trips provide an engaging way for students in grades 3, 4, and 5 to connect with their history studies through hands-on experiences. Students will be immersed in the wonders of nature while learning about Fort Wayne and Indiana history. Each trip is designed to complement classroom learning while sparking curiosity and discovery.

Please get in touch with Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation at (260) 427-5023 or email Amanda Black at amanda.black@cityoffortwayne.org to schedule a tour for your classroom or school. Tour scheduling opens on the second Monday in August. Weekday scheduled tours begin after Labor Day and continue through the end of September.

Accommodations and Launch Site: Sweet Breeze has a capacity of 38 passengers plus a crew of three. Wheelchairs are welcome, and the boat is accessible to all. Boat tours depart from Promenade Park dock, located on the south dock of Promenade Park at 202 West Superior Street, Fort Wayne, IN, 46802.

Cost: Friends of the Rivers underwrites prior approved classroom field trips. The cost per student rider is $5. Limited school staff may participate at no cost. Additional adults will be charged the community tour rate.

Docents and Curriculum: Knowledgeable, on-board docents will lead your tour, sharing stories and facts relevant to the curriculum required for each grade level.  Visual aids aid understanding. Friends of the Rivers curriculum was developed to meet Indiana academic standards and guidelines.
